Windows 7 Starter is the latest operating system created and marketed by the Microsoft Corporation. This operating system was first introduced last October 2009 following the previous operating system, Windows Vista.

Windows 7 Starter is a more improved Windows Vista with additional features. But there are also features present in the Windows Vista but have been eliminated in this new operating system. One of the things that the Microsoft Corporation has improved is the Desktop, the first thing that pops after logging into a computer.

The desktop is the location where the wallpaper and background are present. Some shortcuts and icons can also be seen in the desktop. Some new desktop gadgets are included in the Windows 7 Starter operating system.

The Windows 7 Starter operating system has the following desktop features: backgrounds, gadgets, snap, peek and shake. Background desktop feature tackles about a change from putting a single picture in the background in Windows Vista but in the Windows 7 Starter a picture slideshow of pictures can be situated in the desktop. The user can personally choose the pictures that he wants to put into that slideshow. The feature named as the gadget can be located just about everywhere in the desktop which main function it to endow the user with some services without independent applications. While the snap feature of this operating system lets the user resize and rearrange several windows in the desktop especially for those files opened with the same application. The peek, feature on the other hand, allows the user to take a quick peek of the desktop without having to minimize the active windows. And the shake feature tends to minimize all other opened windows and retain that one window that the user wants to focus in.

Having desktop gadgets is a new feature for the Windows 7 Starter. And it advantageous for users because it helps users in performing the basics in a computer. It is also helpful for multi-tasking. But there are also some disadvantages of using desktop gadgets with the Windows 7 Starter operating system. One reason is the fact that these gadgets are also using thee CPU. Therefore, the more gadgets installed in the computer, the more memory is being occupied which can lead to the computer to function very slowly.

But there are some users of the Windows 7 Starter operating system that still wants to use every feature that the system is offering. So, for those who want to install these desktop gadgets, here are some steps in installing such gadgets. The first step is to view the default Microsoft desktop gadgets by right-clicking in the desktop. After doing so, there will be options that will show the gadgets that the user can choose from. Then, he must select the gadgets that he wants to install along with the Windows 7 Starter operating system.

But before installation, the user must first check that the desktop gadget that he had chosen is compatible with windows 7. After downloading the file, he can now execute the file and then install.
